Car Pool Tips from Nissan Massachusetts
Car pooling is a great way to save money on gas and wear and tear on cars. Nissan Massachusetts recommends car pooling when you can. Here are tips for successful car pooling:
Decide on the schedule for driving - Each member of the car pool should have a turn driving – but you'll need to decide whether to alternate daily, weekly, or monthly.Figure out the route – Know where the morning pickup points are, and what time everyone is going to be picked up. Also decide where and what time to meet for the return trip home. It's a good idea to have a plan in place for how long a driver will wait if someone is running behind schedule.
How costs will be split – will each member of the car pool pay their way by driving an equal amount of days, while the riders save that day, week or month? Or will everyone contribute a certain amount of money each week into the pool for gas money, tolls, and other expenses? Set up the arrangements and agreed upon payment dates.
Establish policies or rules if necessary – it's always a good idea to decide whether or not smoking will be allowed, or eating or drinking in the car. These situations can irritate the other passengers and so it's best to make decisions about them before they come up so everyone is on the same page.
What will you do if the driver is out sick? - The success of your car pool will depend on communication among members. If the scheduled driver is out sick or unable to go to work, there should be an alternate driver available for the rest of the car pool. Have a chain of communication – so each person has only to call one person in the car pool to relay messages.
